SPECTRUM /
– video installation piece created with thermal imaging camera
by Ewelina Aleksandrowicz and Andrzej Wojtas
SPECTRUM is an immersive video installation that explores the unseen connections between energy circulations.
The existence of energy is often not visible, what if we could see this energy?
Revealing the energy of city life, the transformation of energy accumulated in nature as well as the energy usage of electronic machines?
Could we improve energy usage if we had a better understanding of energy waste points?
Using a thermal imaging camera, the artist will investigate the energy of Newcastle University activities. Filming different parts of university life, exploring thermal imagery of buildings and energy emitted by walls, glass, wood, electronic equipment, exploring energetic differences and connections between different types of materials, machines and human bodies.
SPECTRUM will expose the public to the world of temperatures and relationships between architecture and nature. With Spectrum, Aleksandrowicz and Wojtas uncover the hidden world of energy processes and structures in everyday life.
SPECTRUM conveys the remarkable transformation of energies at Newcastle University’s site in processes that are visible through range of colours. Various colour modes are representing temperature differences – warm, cold areas. Through an incredibly vibrant colour range the piece brings up unique cinematic qualities. The artists have gathered footage from different locations, including; Newcastle University Campus, Kings Gate Building, Students Union, Culture Lab, as well as footage from Whitley Bay – Hockey Match of Newcastle Sports Team.
SPECTRUM project was created with support of Newcastle Institute for Research on Sustainability and Culture Lab, University of Newcastle.
SPECTRUM will be projected on Kings Gate building between
Dec 16th 2011 and January 6th, 2012

excited to see more often my berlin friends.. and visit regularly my favorite spaces.. o . o
exist in the city with my vibe frequency
.. (new old chapter.. feels like actually coming back ‘home’ .. everything is so familiar.. im there so often / constantly.. its like coming for a visit again and keeping the balance of the present moment.. rather than going into unknown drastic shifts.. :P i dont even feel like i’m changing the living places..
theres nice connection between tikuls and berlins since always / since early teenage years.. 14teen 90s broadening knowledge consciousness moments… first journeys ..first big city. first fascinations.. first contact with culture.. art music experiments
sounds really cliche :d
despite all this oversaturated hype and hipcoolness and all the cliches and the fact that all the world is living in berlin or moving there at the moment… and that it somehow became now a mecca of cool xberg club mate designey creatures … caricatures.. or so. i dont care. i have my own berlin world which works and gives me high… and lots beautiful aliens here :)
… positive side of it, means that everyone else is living here at the moment :P – lots of our friends, great people are close :)
/
there are thin multilayers of`this city skin… so much air and tiny caves.. angles.. and it always was one of the most important spaces for me…
i’ve never met a person in my life who wouldnt love berlin.. true phenomena* :P
/ hypnotic*
///
this liquid journey is always up on.. (london-berlin-helsinki route rooted + more.. )* even than, there are still plenty of faces and spaces to discover.. :) ……thrill…
motion.. traveling through times and spaces ..sharing. circulating . . : . . hopefully our crazy collective artworkflow will continue to live its own life as it did for the last couple of years.. it brought us to so many places and helped us to meet many incredible people … we’re glad and thankful* /
/
