In spite of the slightly cynical introductory notes, there is such a thing as a film clip that holds one’s attention and lends weight to the song that it accompanies, without resorting to gimmicks or stealing the show in its own right. Pussykrew’s clip for HTRK’s ‘Synthetik’ is one such clip. Visually arresting, there is something sensual and heartbreaking about the masked figures that transcends the initial revulsion that one may feel. As such, it is a perfect companion to HTRK’s violent, narcotic music.

SPECTRUM is an immersive video installation that explores the unseen connections between energy circulations.

The existence of energy is often not visible, what if we could see this energy?

Revealing the energy of city life, the transformation of energy accumulated in nature as well as the energy usage of electronic machines?

Could we improve energy usage if we had a better understanding of energy waste points?

Using a thermal imaging camera, the artist will investigate the energy of Newcastle University activities. Filming different parts of university life, exploring thermal imagery of buildings and energy emitted by walls, glass, wood, electronic equipment, exploring energetic differences and connections between different types of materials, machines and human bodies.

SPECTRUM will expose the public to the world of temperatures and relationships between architecture and nature.  With Spectrum, Aleksandrowicz and Wojtas uncover the hidden world of energy processes and structures in everyday life.

SPECTRUM conveys the remarkable transformation of energies at Newcastle University’s site in processes that are visible through range of colours. Various colour modes are representing temperature differences – warm, cold areas. Through an incredibly vibrant colour range the piece brings up unique cinematic qualities. The artists have gathered footage from different locations, including; Newcastle University Campus, Kings Gate Building, Students Union, Culture Lab, as well as footage from Whitley Bay – Hockey Match of Newcastle Sports Team.

SPECTRUM project was created with support of Newcastle Institute for Research on Sustainability and Culture Lab, University of Newcastle.

SPECTRUM will be projected on Kings Gate building between Dec 16^th 2011 and January 6^th, 2012

we had some gigs booked already with our noise healing sessions – domestic violence in warsaw / wroclaw and poznan / .. and one visual live poem in krakow..

/ SEAS OF TRANQUILITY is poetic ambient audio-visual piece, beyond any standard visual languages. A piece of an artwork which extracts from modern electronic video art / performance art / theatre / art cinema. A mixture of surreal immersive images and sounds that are produced to the highest standards. Piece of cinematic poetry with ambient hypnotic soundscape – Neo Classical Drone Textures, Glitch and Melancholy. Deep dreamy atmosphere creates a parallel world where bended perception transforms romantic horizons and objects into abstract visions. By using emotionally loaded strong images and beautiful sonic textures artists are building an epic live journey, loaded with mixture of emotions and feelings – solace, alien beauty, fascination, solitude love and nostalgia..
Visual Material was produced by video collective – Pussykrew (Ewelina Aleksandrowicz and Andrzej Wojtas) in collaboration with UK based performance artists and theatre contemporary dancers. Video Artists collected the footage from very unique charismatic places – Teufelsberg in Berlin, Hartlepool coast in the North of England and snowy Suomenlinna island in Finland. next mixed feelings’ gig was in warsaw (domestic violence this time).. was a bit of a disaster.. laptops and controllers drowned under the honey sticky bear..  o . o  there were moments of doubt and stress.. intimate corner with a hair dryer trying to save whats left..  but we handled that and our machines as well :) and moved on :P equipment is working … wooop!* it wasnt really the greatest gig ever but at least some friends showed up.. we simply didnt had time to promote this little event in any way… and everything seemed to be a bit out the loop.. little messy. / the place didnt actually looked like made for noise music :P whatever .  every experience is important. and everything generates energy. sometimes chaos generates even more happy endings :) aftergig time was much nicer with great conversations.. /

there was no time to think about that because next day we went to Wroclaw :) and it was much much better..  proper venue + organisation.. and public . nice sets ( with Odaibe and Wojciech Morawski ) chilled atmosphere .. nightmares from warsaw disappeared in the air..

this years festival was incredibly busy for us.. we did an audio-visual installation with Raime, visuals for HTRK and visual set for Kassem Mosse and MMM ::

/ this years festival theme – FUTURE SHOCK – dark heavy hypnotic vibe..

Unsound speaks for itself with its witch housey future shock genres *  hype williams / maria minerva / htrk and holy other were my favs :) i also liked oldschoold legendary dinosaurs model 500 and i was dancing like crazy tikul to pure early techno synths* total feeling. despite the fact that they were a bit diva style plastic dummies.. either way – respect. always good and importnat experience to see / hear precursors of tekno..

+ chris and cosey are simply good.. and in a good form :) they washed me clear & over a bit in a way that i was expecting.. pure cold electronicaa.. nourish* …it works.. and moves me.. and throbbing gristle is a part of my childhood..

I was amazed by organisation of an event and super vibrant atmosphere full of activities.. thanks to Shu Lea Cheang and Maite-Cajaraville for organising this fantastic platform for meeting and opportunities, and also for vibrantly promoting women in digital arts.. //

together with my new lady friends we’ve spend 1 night at Hsinchu (- Wind City :) and gave an evening performance in a public space.. each person was presenting visual metrial which responds to the theme – the WIND.

next two days we spent in Taipei :)

as i said before – the organizers – Shu Lea and Maite did their best, took incredible care of us.. (super accommodation, great food, meetings, aaahh :) and filled our days with activities .. it was a pleasure to be surrounded by such fantastic group of ladies :) .. we were having a great group meals every day.. super tasty times. +  exploring taipei city ( i dont like touristic entertainment but somehow i went to the highest building in the world! o . o ..or the ex-highest building – 101 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taipei_101  + temples, markets, clubs, galleries, local culture, food..  meow*

the last day we went to natural hot springs ! .. near taipei city..  -  water massages.. bubbles.. jaqoozies etc made my time ..totally :D its the best* we spend ages sitting together and playing in water in cold and hot pools.. its so relaxing…. and so much funnn :P

+ touch / pressure reactive tangible object – electronics arduino/sensors/simple max patch with granular effect / + an artificial 3d skin (made of dragon skin* silicone rubber)

+ for the sound samples i’ve made field recordings of my skin (rubbing , stroking).. especially for this project.

public was able to create the soundscape through interacting with this object.. sound was released by touch.. intensity of the sound was equal to the pressure of touch..

/ the hanging screens created 3 dimensional object in a space themselves… /

its fascinating how transparent screen and projection on different materials (plastic or fabric) can give a this soft dreamy ‘hologramy’ feeling.. :)

Soft Shell is an immersive synthetic/organic environment which explores body transformations, bodily textures, physicality and the gesture of touch.
Viewers are surrounded by projected images in a triangular formation, creating an intimate sound interaction.
Participants are able to built ambient soundscapes and affect the generated sound by the gentle touching of an artificial skin covering an electronic ‘body’ object. The intensity of these gestures relate to the intensity of sound.
Through participating in this performative ritual and interaction, viewers are invited to explore the new qualities of tangible gesture and the relationships created between synthetic and organic materials. Electronic components enclosed in an artificial skin become organic and simultaneously, the projected images of human skin are transformed into abstract textures.
Soft Shell becomes an artificial space within the body, an affective, audio-visual experience mediated by an artificial skin – electronic tangible interface.

Self-build controller interface, based on pressure sensors, arduino, Max/MSP patch – granuliser / and artificial transparent skin imitation material – silicone rubber (Dragon Skin*). Electronics are enclosed in artificial ʻskin-likeʼ soft material, which has similar qualities as human skin.

touch sensitive object was build from pressure sensors and arduino, than i’ve made a mould from air drying clay.. – organic soft shape :)

and i’ve filled the form with dragon skin silicone rubber.. it casts very fast. (around 30 mins. ) it worked perfectly… im planning to use similar mechanism to create the new version of my interface – for audio-visual performances.. and add more sensors to achieve wider tactile interactions..

meanwhile.. the 1st rubber prototype and /soft shell installation was amazingly successful :) public expressed great feedback. people couldnt get enough, while they were interacting with it and generating sound, being immersed into the video material. the tactile environment was so pleasant to touch.. it made everyone completely soaked into the space.. hipnotized :D

the reactions of public were just so surprising. i never expected that people will get so much into it..

im quite happy with the result.. but it feels like theres so much to explore in this field.. build new versions, experiment with electronics or different shapes of rubber.. the space.. .. so im planning to work on it more and more.. :)

i’ve decided to come up with a different shape of my av interface and cover electronics [sensors/arudino/wires] with a layer of soft silicone rubber to achieve more 3d soft object ergonomic shape pleasent to touch and sqeeze, for tactile tangible gestures.. i would like to enclose electronics into little rubber organic cushion which will reveal perfect connection with the performer .. visually and gesturally :) an extension of my body..

1st i’ve did lots of tests with different kinds of rubbers silicone rubbers silicones and different substances..  i was rearching for something light soft and flexible.. after trying out different substances i found something perfect !!! - DRAGON SKIN*

DRAGON SKIN is a special material mainly used for film special effects.. casting, shaping ‘skin’ imitating masks and creating artificial body parts.. :)

its ideal.. soft.. strong.. extremely flexible and light..
