pics update on gun building// it is a truly difficult and challenging to fit all those devices inside this plastic killer machine…
but we’ve made it! success!*
pretty + kitschy + cyberpunky hippie-tekno!
life feed from cam looks pretty satisfying.. all buttons work.. [ record sound : loop : clear ]
+ bright LEDs for the cam to see in the dark ::

hah!* update update ::
being quite busy, preparing for another show in london – coming on 5th of August -
at /THE OTHERS::/ open gallery with guys from ILL FM // should be cool..
::
we were improving our audio-visual interface for the noisy performances is getting more rich and exciting.. new ideas appearing during the works.. everything flourished and became more complex… which is good.
at the moment precisely building our 2 guns.. solemnity of summer in a concrete building feels right enough:: : P
the gun object which will be part of the interface will contain a microphone [ for live sample producing and distortion : D ] a tiny camera – for live video recording [ glitching / reactive on audio ] audio fused in one with visuals – each one reacting on each other… small changes in sound will cause transformations of visuals which will appear on the screen …with the help of the max+jitter :] the life recorded visuals from the gun camera will be mixed live with the prerecorded datamoshed footage.. [videos of live mixing datamoshing which i posted earlier on :: http://dm.ncl.ac.uk/tikul/?p=2606 - again that will be modified and waved into existing max patch]
we used also max object – ‘drunk! [ randomiser : ] + video delay to mess-up with the live rec frames a bit :: [mixing live recordings from gun-cam]
[delayed frames - thats the footage from inside my mouth :] as i was checking how the gun-camera will behave inside my throat during live sound making…
mouth-gun-cam // life sound-video making..

the gun object will also have inside an accelerometer which will control the datamoshed prerecorded video stream and mix the frames depending on audio motives and characteristics…
in a suicidal gesture [by putting the gun in the mouth] performer will be able to make sound and visuals at the same time…
everything will be streamed through arduino ‘lova’, filtered and modified by effects in max… [distortion and stuff..]
through the lack of desired number of digital and analogue pins in arduino we had to use shift register >> http://www.arduino.cc/en/Tutorial/ShiftIn :: http://www.arduino.cc/en/Tutorial/ShiftOut ::
to multiply the number of them and add as many pins as we need..
serial shift register allows you collect information from 8 or more switches while only using 3 of the pins on Arduino.
super great!*
///
we’ve shoot also fresh and ice cold new footage of overdated octopuss dissection [thanks to dr degger!]*
and datamoshed it… glitchy beauty//
and here some datamoshed [surprisingly in pink!] footage ::

looks good*

[super collider finally spoke to max/msp!]
we managed to make simple audio-synthesis in Super Collider ::
heres the code :: [from SuperCollider examples + modification]

we used OSC [open sound control] signals to connect super collider to max/msp and control sensitivity of audio synthesis with accelerometer [placed in the gun]* with help of arduino… yeeeyy!*
:: max controlling the sound synthesis in super collider >>
the quality of sound synthesis in sc is very satisfying…
/////
///////////back to visual side of the project – one more vision >>
using light to cause advanced visual experience ::
: inspired by tribal culture : hallucinatory experience [while looking at the strobe lights with particular frequency] :
and some great sound artists : ] we would like to involve some lights.. sharp hardcore flashing white lights when playing our ritual sets.. at the point of the very noisiest moments…
colourful + ultraviolet lights has been always a part of my personal interior design preferences ..
space surrounded by strange lights on the walls or objects seems to be the best environment to be in
once i was even thinking to get myself a strobe light and have it in my room… it extracts a lot from my inner deep spiritual fascination of different states of mind… nothing new. but i would like to try to use it… or build some performance or another version of the project around this light concept …
last idea ::
hypnotic strobe light as another performance component / object to use to fulfill visual outcome ::
we got some small strobe light .. hacked it a bit inside out’ to control its speed of flashes depending on audio stream… with simple mechanical instalation + motor it is easy enough to control strobe light potentiometer with accelerometer attached to arduino*
im not the best in explaining all those technical bits in words, through my chaotic stream of thoughts.. hmm…
but heres the video ::

Domestic Violence is an audiovisual project by Polish duo Ewelina Aleksandrowicz and Andrzej Wojtas. Granular outbursts of sound, synthetic paroxysm and diy approach shape physically aggressive performances arranged through a specifically conceived audio interface.
Influenced by underground Japanese bio-mechanical movies, post-industrial landscape, abandoned buildings, a destructive punk attitude and anarchism, Domestic Violence turns emotional aggregates into therapeutic noise. During its live shows, the audience is invested and tortured by waves of concrete, material sound and raw images of flesh and biomorph surrealistic creatures.
The interface was built by the artists in order to control and manipulate music with their own bodies. It is based on Arduino, connected with Max/Msp patch with recording and layering functions and prerecorded samples, and allows the production of sound as a consequence of physical gesture. Different intensities of pressure and touch result in augmented or reduced inflection of glitch and noise and distorted aesthetic crashes of the video projection.
With its harsh expressive wildness and a dark, brutalist touch, Domestic Violence leads the listener through an imaginative digital pilgrimage, exploring human and inhuman primitive roots by reactivating dismissed areas of our psyche.
