digital city fellowship::
April 27th, 2010
we got in!!!!!!!***
together with Andrzej we are starting the HackSquad project : D at Digital City Fellowship::
//
after sending an application second time…
we were invited to do a digital city fellowship and develop our project::
[HackSquad – Artists Oriented Production Lab]::
we did quick presentation of our idea in front of the digital city panel and the reaction was extremely positive!*
great portfolio and enthusiasm succeeded.
our HackSquad project is alive!!
finally…
for the next 6 months of the Fellowship we can get necessary creative help, professional advise and necessary financial support from DigitalCity, so we can fully concentrate on our project + work on our new crazy ideas and interactive audio/visual productions and turn them into reality!:: as well gain new skills to provide a new media service : ] and finally have the opportunity to use fantastic equipment from IDI studios…
stunning… !
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
WHAT IS HACKSQUAD ??* [some chaotic fragments of our few pages long application proposal]
/HackSquad is a platform for artists who are willing to create new works
using digital media. Our mission is to produce art works accomplished through
the use of new and evolving technologies ( physical computing*, generative
art**, digital cinema*** ). Our goal is to create a profitable production company
where artists can make work inspired and achieved by new media./
/ HackSquad is a young seed of creative,
cultural and social scene in the North East, a responsive public context for the
appreciation of art and social experience. We will to advance the art
community’s and the public’s “agenda” for the use of technology in art,
support artists in the North East in the production of new media art work to the
very high standards by providing high quality production service, workshops
and consultation. /
/ Our presence as vibrant new media production company is an outcome
of an essential need to propagate emerging new technologies, engagement
within art communities, uniting innovative practitioners in favour to create
strong sense of digital environment in the midst of the society. /
/HackSquad is investigating the following income streams mainly
focusing on commissioned works for artists and institutions via:
- high quality new media production and post-production :
( video production ( HD, XDCam, RED ) , 3D graphics, animation, open
source software – processing, openFrameworks, max/msp/jitter
and hardware – microcontrollers, physical computing)
- consultancy
- workshops /
/ HackSquad will propagate creation processes also within communities new to digital art,
and bring together innovative practitioners from all branches of the arts collaborating in the use of digital media.
Our goal is to create a venue, a physical studio space for the development of emerging technologies, related meetings, consultations, exchange of information and knowledge and DIY movement /

having nice time with circuit : playin with visual noise paintings ::
[changing the circuits and resistance by attaching extra wires : )
+ ability to manipulate vision with the force of touch, by attaching FSR's to various resistors]
lots of fun with electricity //

[very quick and to vague sketch for now...]
audio/visual interactive installation [work in groups/ me and andrzej?:]
im amazed by andrzejs idea of
using pico projector small mobile projector!*
[ an emerging technology that applies the use of a projector in a handheld device ]

amazing… sweet. this is what that little thing can do:

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
im considering of some small installation / either performance .. im not really sure yet…
if using some other electronics, platforms /arduino etc/ -
sustainable project by using solar battery panels to run little installation… i would like to experiment with this kind of energy source, by running a small circuit from solar power …
[but thats somehow related to project which i would like to develop for Live Electronic Music Performance Module - small electronic interactive object / mechanical gadget which can interact within the public space
.. so not sure if i will use it for the other project... ::messiness...
solar batteries::

im not sure about heart of the city space... i dont have strong conceptual idea for now, which involves this space...
maybe using the back side of the cathedral... ?
//i planning to use the small mobile projectors in future projects... [within the public space]

bioplastic + glowing bacteria::
April 18th, 2010
had a really fantastic day…
we went to 25stratfordgrove space
to see the work of our dear Brian Degger:: bioartist/biotechnologist/scientist/ —>
[ http://labinabox.co.uk/ :: http://transitlab.org/ ]
- art and domestic biotechniology::
/ Brian Degger is currently in working in residence, turning the garage gallery into a space for domestic biotechnology, a literal interpretation of 25SG as an “incubator for live work”. /
::
brian did a cool presentation… of how to make bioplastic in a home environment : )
we found how to make bioplastic!*
and learn how to grow glowing bacteria!..
and got the kit and instructions to try this at home and ‘plant’ glowing microorganisms to grow our own culture…
than had delicious dinner prepared by artist and host of the space Carol Luby, a nice discussion about ‘bioart’ & science with other artists and residents…
we’ve met again guys from sonodrome who are working with brian at the moment, inventing new projects..
and had a great time in general!*
//i found dr brian’s work very inspiring.. and exciting, i would like to spend more time in his ‘mobile’ lab and work on some ideas together.. i cannot wait to grow my own glowing bacteria and make bioplastic at home! [vinegar + potato starch + glicerol] in particular proportions, then wait few days until it will get harder;] it is amazing how this substance can be used instead of toxic plastic.. it is actually biodegradable, completely environmental friendly plastic, it can be used in a various ways….
together with andrzej we had this idea to use bioplastic as a audio interface… : P
by using arduino + pressure sensors, build physical interface with usb port to connect to laptop/maxMsp
and instead of closing the whole construction in a plastic box we would like to design a bioplastic soft form and give it organic, ‘bloobby’ shape, so the sensors will be covered in a nice smoothy, flexible, ‘bubble like’ transparent ‘organ’
so our idea is to design, build ‘silicone-like’ soft form for our audio interface… with the help of fantastic dr degger!*
: D we can use various of colours and shapes… make it look more friendly and organic : ) and to feel the sensation of touching something silky and soft when pressing the sensor…. to dress the mechanism into bioplastic skin : )
[one thing which came to my mind in the first place was actually performative art idea to put this substance all over my body and wrap myself into this hard fluid... which can be sensational experience too, despite the smell of the vinegar;/ ]
//
some photos from todays bio’ experience :: [dr degger at work;]

glowing led in bioplastic by jim [sonodrome]::

//
regarding of our idea for the interface… we agreed with brian that this idea just brought somehow an /existenz/ movie to our minds… again!
[existenz is an amazing old movie by mr cronenberg ofcourse...
as everyone remember there was a story about game which is taking over peoples lives and shifting their reality into the parallel reality.... full of violence, cyber spunk and basic instincts...
in this movie the game consoles were designed as a living mechanical organisms.. - a bioconsoles which looked like human body organs, living creatures.... covered with biomaterial... connecting to human body with the bioport*]

i’ve heard that there suppose to be a gun in the complete full set with this game ..but it got lost somewhere… in between the mountains of commodores, walls of ataris and piles of gameboys and other goods…
i have a naughty plan to hack this sweet toy…
and change it into video controller … rrrrRaaaa!*

[later on at my birthday evening, Ko Le came up and she looked very suprised and happy when she saw my 'prinztronic microten deluxe TV game' : D she told me about very funny coincidence... the same day Ko Le was there.. at the politech jumple sale looking for stuff and when she saw this orange button thing .. she thought about me straight away :P and wanted to get it for me as a present .. finally she got something else ..but it was surprising that i came there later on and got it for free as a super birthday bonus with the video mixer which Andrzej bought :) .. magic* cannot wait to check it inside...
