The Film Praxis Screening & Seminar Series is an initiative that responds to the development of new practice-based degrees in Film at Newcastle University. Conceived by Dr Ian McDonald, Director, Film@CultureLab, it provides a forum for exploring film as a practice-based endeavour that moves beyond the binaries of film studies and film production, for thinking about the relationship between film theory and film making, between aesthetic design and social relevance and between technological innovation and political critique.
The series will invite leading film and moving image practitioners and theorists, both inside and beyond the academy, to present and discuss film-work. The intention of the series is threefold: to connect theorists, practitioners and practitioner-theorist working in film at Newcastle University; to nurture a sense of community within film practice and film-related research disciplines; and to open up possibilities for unexpected or novel collaborations in Film related research and Film Practice across the University.
