this image is created by taking two still photographs of the same subject, from two slightly differing viewpoints… technically it works best if the distance is around the same as the distance between your eyes… but we’ll see about that.

i have been wanting to make a stereoscopic animated .gif for a while now, i like the lo-fi 3-dness, no glasses, no x/y/z, rendering etc… just 2 photos slammed together on a loop. the source photos were taken on an iphone 4, with no precision regarding angles and composition.

i am pretty happy with the result, and i think the KIRAKIRA subject matter is appropriate for the jerky/glitchy imagery.

excersice bike with doppler effect speakers dependant upon pedalling speed.

idea #2

pixelated visa photographs rendered live but too close to see… filmed and shown on screen at suitable distance.

idea #3 (albeit an old one)

a tv as a pendulum, with an image/film reacting to the movement of the monitor… eg always level or other manipulations. need not be technologicaly fiddly… just a bit of clever filming.

idea #4

fake light bulb fittings made with customised light bulbs and sticks instead of wires presented upside down.

idea #5

LED mosaics shapes ; first simple one maybe a heart presented in dark nasty urban spaces.

idea #6

using eyetracking software, create movement in everywhere but your diresct line of sight, so only in the periphery vision. (thinking 9/2)

i suppose this post is a slight confession, but i don’t “get” some of the ideas we talk about in the thinking sessions. there i said it.

it isn’t like i sit there, eyes glazed/brain fried,.. i do try… i follow along, ask the odd question, make the occassional comment, (look up stuff on wikipedia that i don’t understand.) yet i don’t know how much progress i’m actually making, i read the texts, and i read a lot in general. but some weeks i get it and some weeks i don’t. this is no-ones fault apart from my own… my background in theory is small and malnourished… so i am putting in a concentrated effort to change this.

so i watched this… i put it on with next to no idea who he was or what he did… and it is by no means deep important thought provoking stuff, but i enjoyed it, and learned from it… zizek is no longer a mysterious imposing name to me. listening to him speak his own theories, and thoughts was more personal than reading it. we talked about similar ideas in relation to translations of text and the loss of accuracy with regards to derrida, and the differences between the written word and the spoken word… loss of emphasis, meaning, tone, life(?)…

onwards and forwards… more chewythoughtbrainfoodmatter.

having read through freuds text… i struggle to relate to his point about “auxiliary apparatus”. this is because i am wrestling with the idea that modern computers, the web, mobile devices are “built on the same model as the sense organs themselves or portions of them.” memory can be stored permenantly and temporarily… it can be edited and checked. potentially no physical memory trace exists, yet an unlimited amount of space exists for memory and can be easily filed and located, even with pictures, sounds etc. (smells?) anyway… just a wee ramble.
