Dinner Du Jour – DOCUMENTATION

For those of you who missed the exhibit, or simply interested in how to create something similar for your own project, here is the documentation, which includes the coding which I have provided as a .zipped file you can download by clicking this: DinnerDuJour. Enjoy!

See a video clip of the plate in action by clicking here.

Dinner Du Jour

Nina Limardo, Mres Digital Media student, aims to recreate dining experiences through soundscapes created by an interactive dinner plate.

This installation was exhibited at Culture Lab, Newcastle University on 12 January, 2012.

Further documentation for the installation is provided in a following post: click here

Thanks got to Adrian for brining this to my attention. Very apt for what I have been playing about with!

Development Procedure

Potential Encounter Scenario (‘User’ Scenario)

You notice a strange orange glow emanating from a back alley on your way home from work. You’ve walked past this same part of town almost every day for the past three years and its always been the same litter strewn back street as always, but tonight you notice a strange orange glow emanating from the far end. You begin to move in for a closer, and see a small (Read more...)

Code Play

Been looking at processing again and how to create some play with rendering the viewer by webcam. Using matrices and webs of lines that colour match…..been playing about just with jpegs but need to see how the video renders come out….sound linking??? maybe have the detail in response to ambient sound..have some of integer controls with sensors (temp/movement/pressure etc etc the list goes on!!!)

Concept and Background Thought

What is the relationship between the Ecological crisis and our day to day sensory experience of the world we inhabit? This is the question my work on the Doing module has grown out of, and will be explored in more depth in the (Read more...)

Little Brother Code

Ive been working on some new code for my little brother sketch so that it can track not only x value but y value as well. The only way I can think of doing this is to create a sequence of images that can be animated together to cover the full arc of 180×180*. Guessing at this stage that it will require a pretty large grid of images to perform a smooth animation. Had a (Read more...)

V4

After a good conversation with Rich about projector mapping (brought about by the recent shimmer and lumiere festivals) it seems that v4 has some real potential on the interactive side

- 1 you can attach sensors to it and have them give serial inputs for integers!

-2 you can use opencv plug ins!

A nice example of wat can be achieved

A World of Sensors

I have never realized that we are so close to all kinds of sensors until I was walking around the city. It’s amazing that we are living in the world of sensors indeed; different kinds of sensors built our world, light sensors, temperature sensors, gravity sensors, magnetic sensors, sound sensors, humidity sensors, etc.

Creative Web 2011/2012 Week 5

Summary of this weeks session on “Collaborating and Creating”… Creating Narratives ————————- We began by looking at a couple of writing exercises that can be used for the development of titles and narratives. Project Development

Brother

The process of a spectator spending hours in front of a single image absorbed in its narrative is being replaced in the digital era by a process in which the spectator expects “the stimulus of continual visual transformation” (Vaughan, 2005:5). I want to explore this new need of the viewer to be continually stimulated as inspiration for a new responsive Digital Facial Image (DFI) hopefully my DFI will respond to the viewers presence and (Read more...)

Sensor Walk

Entering the wonderful world of sensors, it is amazing to take a closer at the sensors we overlook in our everyday lives. What I found most interesting about this project, was how many of the same sensors are used to measure the same things, but what makes them different is what they control, or how they interpret and use that data.

My first sensor is a Barcode Scanner:

The sensor in a barcode (Read more...)
